Joe Thornton's four-goal game celebration would ... - Yahoo Sports

Via @bonksmullet.

Two days on from his incredible, four-goal performance, capped with the early frontrunner for goal of the year, the hockey world is still buzzing about nineteen-year-old sensation Tomas Hertl. But on Thursday, the conversation took a slight turn when Washington Capitals' coach Adam Oates gave voice to a growing crowd of dissenters, calling Hertl's move disrespectful.

And that's when Joe Thornton came to Hertl's rescue. Sensing that the conversation was beginning to turn against his linemate, the Sharks' captain decided to do his captainly duty Thursday, turning the attention away from Tomas Hertl and squarely on himself.

How did he do that? He whipped out one doozy of a quote. From Jason Botchford of The Province:

Hearing a question to Marleau about Hertl and whether he was showboating, Thornton said: “Shut up, have you ever played the game?”

When the press turned his way, he then added:

“I’d have my [rooster] out if I scored four goals. I’d have my [rooster] out, stroking it.”

In Hertl's defense, he's new to this country. That's a good way to get deported.

But seriously, oh my God. Thornton can't possibly have actually said that, can he? David Pollak?

Well then.

Yeah, we can probably safely assume that Joe Thornton didn't expect to be quoted. But he was. And now here we are.

Amazingly, Thornton's never had a four-goal game. He's at nearly a point a game over his lengthy NHL career, racking up 1120 points in 1128 games with his mad dangles, and he's registered four career hat tricks, the most recent of which came October 27, 2010 versus the New Jersey Devils. But he's never dropped four on an opponent. Which is why he's never dropped trou on an opponent.

When he does, though, well, if you thought Hertl's between-the-legs move was over the top, just wait for Jumbo Joe's to rock out on his fourth tally of the night. It'll bring new meaning to the term "junk goal".

Ex-vice president's daughter Liz Cheney to run for Senate

(Reuters) - Liz Cheney, the eldest daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, announced on Tuesday she will challenge incumbent and fellow Republican Mike Enzi for Wyoming's Senate seat in 2014.

"Today, I am launching my candidacy for the United States Senate," Cheney said in a nearly six-minute web video in which she laid out a conservative agenda and sharply criticized President Barack Obama.

"President Obama has launched a war on our Second Amendment rights, he's launched a war on our religious freedom, he's used the IRS to launch a war on our freedom of speech and he's used the EPA to launch a war on Wyoming's ranchers, our farmers and our energy industry," she said.

Cheney, 46, is an attorney who served in the U.S. Department of State during the George W. Bush administration and appears on television as an analyst and political commentator for Fox News.

Enzi was elected to the Senate in 1996 and has been re-elected twice by a comfortable margin. Cheney's announcement comes as Republicans seek to regain the majority in the Senate in the 2014 elections.

But former White House press secretary Ari Fleisher suggested that an internecine fight could be bad for the party

"Liz Cheney will make an excellent Sen. one day," Fleischer tweeted shortly after the announcement. "But divisive, internal GOP fights aren't helpful. No need to create this one."

Moment of truth for Nokia

Nokia Earnings Preview Q2 2013

Nokia reports its spring quarter on Thursday ? and the stakes are very high, indeed. The?substantial spring?revenue weakness from?BlackBerry and HTC implies that many second-tier brands are now in serious trouble with their brand new product launches. Samsung?s earnings miss was a shocker because the South Korean giant was supposed to have a wide open shot at dominating spring sales, particularly?because Apple?s iPhone sales started slowing down significantly in the March quarter. The industry is now staring at the possibility of the entire high-end smartphone market slowing down much faster than expected.?But Nokia is not dependent on high-end smartphones to the extent that BlackBerry and HTC are ? and that makes Nokia?s spring report absolutely riveting.

[More from BGR: iPhone 5S: New leaked photos, purported full specs point to biggest ?S? upgrade ever]

Nokia has two black boxes in its June quarter performance: feature phone sales and the super cheap Lumia 520?smartphone sales. Estimating either?is fiendishly difficult.

[More from BGR: The Boy Genius Report: iPhone 5S to feature indestructible LiquidMetal case]

The company?s feature phone sales hinge on Africa, Middle East, Brazil and South-East Asia, and all leading brokerages have great trouble getting any sense of what is going on there. Wall Street underestimated Nokia?s low-end sales badly in Q2 2012 and Q3 2012, and then overestimated them grossly in Q1 2013. After Nokia?s feature phone shipments plunged to under 56?million units in the March quarter, it now has to deliver at least?54-55 million units to prevent a freak-out over how fast this business is eroding. This is a unique problem for Nokia; its major rivals have all pulled out of the feature phone market, fearful of its collapse.

Another mystery is the sales volume of the Lumia 520, which is the first true budget device in Nokia?s new Windows Phone 8 range. Its non-subsidized price dropped well under $200 during the June quarter, but there was a series of unusual sell-outs of this device in countries like India and America during April and May. Does Nokia have a big Windows Phone volume hit on its hands with the 520 ? and how does it impact the average sales price (ASP) of smartphones? If Nokia did?achieve a big Lumia 520 volume in the spring, its smartphone margin will probably give us strong clues about how profitably Nokia can sell such a cheap device.

Wall Street is all over the place. The revenue consensus ranges from?5.9 billion euros to 7 billion euros. The smartphone sales expectation is high; investors want volumes to vault from 6.1 million units in Q1 to 8 million units in Q2. But even here there is ambiguity about what would be??good? volume. If Nokia beats the smartphone volume consensus but delivers surprisingly low ASP and margins, that is going to be taken as an indication that the 520 is eroding the profitability of the division.

What Nokia really needs right now is a smartphone volume of 8.1 million or higher with sequential ASP decline from the March quarter that is 2.8% or lower. That is a delicate needle to thread.

Kabam Eyes $300M In Revenue This Year As It Lets Employees Cash Out

kabamWith the IPO door seemingly shut to gaming companies, some of the biggest privately-held studios in the world have been looking for new ways to reward longstanding employees. San Francisco’s Kabam becomes yet another one today in a deal that let employees sell $38.5 million of their shares at a $700 million valuation. Everyone in the company who had vested shares had the choice to sell, so it wasn’t limited to just the management. Kabam isn’t saying who is funding this offering, except to say that both current investors as well as a few new investors are participating. Kabam’s most recently disclosed valuation before this offering was roughly $500 million in a May 2011 deal that involved Google Ventures, Intel Capital, Redpoint Ventures and Canaan Partners. But since Kabam has successfully transitioned onto mobile platforms and away from Facebook with three of the top 25 grossing iPhone titles in the U.S., it’s been able to bump that valuation up a little bit. The company now says it may make about $300 million this year in revenues, up from $180 million last year. While the company says it’s profitable, it’s still not clear how profitable it is. Kabam said it has more than $50 million in cash in the bank today. But the company also said it had $45 million in cash in the bank back in January, so a roughly $5 to 10 million increase in cash on the balance sheet over six months is not that much. CEO Kevin Chou has publicly talked about the company’s IPO prospects in the past. But after Zynga’s disastrous debut with a 75 percent decline in its first year, very few gaming companies seem willing to test the IPO waters. Even though The Wall Street Journal reported last month that King, the maker of Candy Crush Saga, had hired bankers to explore an IPO, sources close to the company have told me King has backed off this prospect for the time being. What that means is you have a host of companies that are throwing off cash that are tied in their ability to provide returns to early shareholders or reward employees. In this case, a secondary offering might make sense. Finland’s Supercell gave all of its employees the option to sell 16.7 percent of their stakes when they raised $130 million at a $770 million valuation earlier this year.

India to restore Bhutan fuel subsidy soon

NEW DELHI: The stunning victory of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Bhutan's second democratic elections has raised hopes of an early settlement to the situation arising out of India's withdrawal of subsidy on its supply of LPG and kerosene.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has written to PDP chief Tshering Tobgay to convey that he has already asked his officials to prepare for discussions over India's Plan assistance to Bhutan. Singh has assured him of India's "unflinching and steadfast" support and that New Delhi is and will always be mindful of Bhutan's interests and that India is a privileged partner of Bhutan in its socio-economic progress.

As is well recognized here, Bhutan may be a tiny, landlocked country but is strategically important for India. After the PDP swept the polls on Saturday, senior government sources here said New Delhi was looking forward to continuing its "special and unique" relationship with Bhutan. They said India would not allow the rural poor in Bhutan to suffer and that efforts would be made to expedite terms and conditions for a fresh wave of financial assistance to Thimphu.

While New Delhi has painstakingly tried to convince all that Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) chief and former prime minister Jigme Thinley's policies were not a dampener in bilateral ties, and cited his nine visits to India in the past five years, the truth is that India doesn't mind seeing the back of Thinley.

New Delhi was alarmed not just by Thinley, who made himself the official ambassador of Bhutan's Gross National Happiness phenomenon, reaching out to Beijing but also the manner in which he established diplomatic ties with many other countries without bothering to take South Block into confidence.

While many in Bhutan have attributed motives to India's decision to cut subsidy on cooking gas and kerosene during the elections, official sources here said that for India the successful conduct of a second election is indicative of consolidation of democracy in Bhutan. "India has always held that it is happy to work with all in Bhutan. We look to continue the special and unique relationship," said a top government source.

What's interesting is that it was the PDP which seemed to be giving vent to India's concerns during the election when it repeatedly blamed DPT for strained ties with New Delhi. The party blamed Thinley's policies even for the subsidy cut by India.

Canadian to be freed in Mauritania

NOUAKCHOTT, Mauritania (AP) ? A 24-year-old Canadian man is to be released from a Mauritanian jail after being sentenced to 18 months in prison and a $2,000 fine for alleged ties to al-Qaida's North African branch, known as al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb, officials said.

The Mauritanian appeals court decided on Sunday to free Canadian national Aaron Yoon, the same day as his sentencing, because he has already been imprisoned for the duration of his sentence, prosecutor Ahmed Ould Abdalla told The Associated Press.

"The court has decided to free the Canadian, Yoon, because he has already served his time. He will be expelled from Mauritania immediately," said Abdalla. Yoon was first arrested in December of 2011.

Prosecutors had sought a 10-year sentence for Yoon due to what they claimed was his "link to dangerous terrorist activity and his role in the recruitment of jihadists." Yoon has denied that he had any ties to terrorism, claiming he came to Mauritania only to learn Arabic and study the Quran.

Yoon reportedly travelled to the region with two other Canadians who were implicated in a terror attack on a BP-operated natural gas plant in southeastern Algeria earlier this year, one of the largest attacks in recent memory. It ended with the deaths of 37 hostages including American, French, Irish and Japanese nationals. The attack was claimed by Moktar Belmoktar, a former commander of al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb, who split off from the al-Qaida chapter late last year in order to create his own group.

Belmoktar had previously carried out several attacks in Mauritania, which has served as a fertile recruiting ground for the jihadists, who now have several Mauritanians in their ranks.

In April, Canadian police confirmed the identities of two Canadians who were killed at the Ain Amenas gas plant in southeastern Algeria: Ali Medlej and Xristos Katsiroubas. Algeria's government has said they were involved in the attack as hostage takers.

During several visits by Amnesty International Canada in June and July 2012, Yoon claimed he was tortured in detention, leading him to sign a confession that has been used against him at every stage of the case, according to a statement issued last month by Alex Neve, secretary general of Amnesty International Canada.

The statement said Yoon attended high school in Ontario with Medlej and Katsiroubas. Yoon told Amnesty he left Canada with the two men in May 2011 to study Arabic and the Quran, first arriving in Morocco. They later traveled to Mauritania, studying at a school in Nouakchott before relocating to a school in Naim, a village 100 kilometers (62 miles) away.

Yoon told Amnesty that he was beaten in police custody soon after being detained in December 2011. "I couldn't answer many of their questions without a translator anyway as my Arabic was still pretty basic at that time," Yoon told Amnesty. "Simply asserting those rights is what unleashed the torture. They were furious with me."

He said he was beaten and hit with sticks of wood until he lost consciousness. Later, his hands and feet were tied behind his back, and the beating resumed after he was laid down on his stomach. It was after this second round of torture that he agreed to sign the confession saying he had planned to travel to Mali to join up with al-Qaida. Amnesty said the confession was written in Arabic and was never read or translated for him.

"The statement he signed has followed him everywhere since," Nave said. "Every official and every judge who has reviewed his case has relied on it."

Nave said there had been no witnesses or other evidence presented in court against Yoon. While Yoon was given a court-appointed lawyer for one appearance, he said the lawyer "did not actively intervene in the proceedings to defend him."

Amnesty said it could make no judgment on the allegations against Yoon, but noted that Yoon's account of being tortured was consistent with many other cases documented by the rights group.

Agency Name

Health Resources & Services Administration

Description

This announcement solicits applications to develop a Home Visiting Collaborative Improvement and Innovation Network (HV CoIIN) to provide support for the delivery of maternal and early childhood services, including (but not limited to) home visiting services provided under the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting program (MIECHV), which was authorized by section 2951 of the Affordable Care Act. ?MIECHV seeks to identify families with children ages 0 to 5 years and pregnant women who reside in at-risk communities and provide comprehensive services to improve outcomes for these families. The purpose of the HV CoIIN is to facilitate the delivery and accelerate the improvement of home visiting and other early childhood services, both globally and as provided by MIECHV grantees, so as to obtain good results faster for low-income and other at-risk families served. ?More specifically, in partnership with the Maternal and Child Health Bureau?s (MCHB) Division of Home Visiting and Early Childhood Systems (DHVECS), the successful applicant will plan and implement a HV CoIIN to facilitate the dissemination of methods and tools on continuous quality improvement (CQI) to up to forty (40) home visiting local implementing agency (LIA) pilot teams in partnership with other early childhood service agencies that operate within up to 12 MIECHV grantee states. Ultimately, the purpose of the HV CoIIN is to produce faster and more consistent health and development results benefiting families served by MIECHV program agencies and other early childhood service agencies in at-risk communities across the country. ?Concrete examples of the contemplated results are parental smoking cessation, reduction of adult depression or child developmental delays or child maltreatment, and attaining family economic self-sufficiency. These results are achievable through dissemination of proven practices and the building of leadership and technical mastery of CQI methods at the state and LIA sites. If successful, lessons learned in this project could be in turn further spread to other states and localities. A CoIIN has been described as a group of self-motivated people with a collective vision, enabled by the Web to collaborate in achieving a common goal by sharing ideas, information, and work.[[]1] ?The CoIIN provides a platform for collaborative learning and quality improvement toward common goals and benchmarks using rapid cycles of change. Key features include collaborative learning, common benchmarks, coordinated strategies, rapid test cycles, and real-time data to drive real-time improvement. Applicants should adapt the structure and process of an established collaborative model to their proposed HV CoIIN project.[[]2] In collaboration with HRSA, the successful applicant will plan and implement the HV CoIIN by engaging willing and able MIECHV state grantees and their LIAs. These participating organizations will collaborate and learn from each other and from an expert home visiting faculty to advance the common aim of improving the quality of home visiting services to improve specific outcomes for families who reside in at-risk communities. The awardee will engage up to 12 MIECHV state grantees and support the provision of intensive technical assistance to up to 40 LIA pilot teams within those states to make system-level changes that will lead to accelerated improvements in outcomes for the at-risk families served by spreading and adapting best practices across these multiple settings. Specifically, teams from local home visiting service agencies will seek improvement in 4-8 topics to be selected by MCHB, in consultation with subject matter experts outside the scope of this funding opportunity announcement, based on their relevance to clients and on the availability of evidence- or experience-based practices likely to yield favorable results for the families served.? Selected topics may include some of the goals within the legislatively specified benchmark areas (e.g., maternal and newborn health, child development, family economic self-sufficiency, etc.) of the MIECHV program in order to take advantage of the extensive data collection required and the wide variety of process and outcome measures already in place. However, the topics ultimately selected need not be restricted to these MIECHV constructs. Other topics could be found ?ripe? for inclusion in the HV CoIIN such as, for example, family or staff program retention or early childhood service system integration. ?? The awardee shall plan activities that bring home visiting and other early childhood service agency teams together to learn about the selected topics and CQI methods and later on to share results and solutions to challenging issues.? Beyond coordinating structured learning sessions, the awardee shall support teams to remain engaged in HV CoIIN activities in their own front-line organizations and communities. The awardee will work in partnership with MCHB?s DHVECS staff (constituting the planning or management team) and expert faculty to coach participants in applying and mastering CQI methods. ?Such coaching and learning will take place during action periods in which LIA teams will test and customize recommended changes in their home environments utilizing ?Plan/Do/Study/Act? (PDSA) cycles among other QI tools.? During the entire collaborative project, the awardee shall ensure that teams have access to an Internet-based platform(s) to share data and other information with the faculty, their peers and the HV CoIIN management team. ?The awardee should also maintain an Internet-based ?data dashboard? with the capability of aggregating data at the local agency, state and overall collaborative levels and displaying these data graphically utilizing primarily run charts but also other graphs useful for quality improvement purposes (e.g., scatter plots, frequency plots, Pareto charts, Shewhart charts).[[]3] Teams are expected to share their progress reports monthly with peers, faculty and management team to participate in peer-to-peer mentoring and sharing of ideas and insights via periodic conference calls and other forms of communication. This sharing of experience and the production of real-time, periodic and graphically displayed data (primarily as run charts) for the LIA teams will help make the powerful technology of qualitative and quantitative data-driven CQI available to the home visitors and other staff at the front line implementing agencies. ?Eventually HRSA expects that CQI skills will become a core competency for the home visiting workforce. Under a contract and separate from this FOA, the DHVECS staff will reach out to experts including home visiting model developers and subject-matter experts to narrow down the selection of programmatic topics for improvement that will establish the technical content for the HV CoIIN. ?This will likely include a preliminary charter, measurement system and a set of strategies or best practices associated with the 4-8 goals for the HV CoIIN (or Change Package). ?The successful applicant shall review any previously developed material for the HV CoIIN and, in collaboration with HRSA, revise and update such technical content as needed as the HV CoIIN is formally launched.? The following is an illustrative set of activities under the HV CoIIN: A core group of (4-6) experts constitutes the faculty of the HV CoIIN learning collaborative who remain engaged with participating teams, grantees and the planning group (involving awardee and DHVECS staff) for the duration of the HV CoIIN. Individual grantees and the selected LIAs commit to a working period of 18-24 months. Each LIA or pilot site constitutes a continuous quality improvement (CQI) team. The HV CoIIN platform and the Model for Improvement are introduced to grantee and LIA teams during the initial phase of the project. ? Team members learn quality improvement methods and tools in structured virtual or in-person sessions. Local teams then apply these CQI techniques to test, innovate and customize the recommended changes in their agencies throughout the project with the support of the expert faculty, the awardee staff and the DHVECS staff (which constitute the collaborative management or planning team). Teams have access to a common Internet-based platform to post periodic progress reports, run charts, and to share lessons learned across settings via conference calls and other forms of communications in between planned technical assistance virtual or in-person activities. [[]2] For instance, the HV CoIIN could follow the publicly available Breakthrough Series (BTS) Learning Collaborative model pioneered by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), which is a time-limited technical assistance platform involving learning and improvement activities for participating organizations. Package Tracking Platform AfterShip Marks Its Public Launch With A New Track Button Plugin And Pricing

aftership-logo-whitebgAfterShip, the package tracking platform for small e-commerce merchants that we profiled back in January, is leaving beta mode today and launching to the public. The Hong Kong-based startup also debuted an easy-to-use Track Button widget for vendors that don't want to deal with an API. By inserting a simple short code (like the one for Facebook Like button plugins), an AfterShip Track button will appear next to tracking numbers on an e-commerce site and allow customers to view delivery information without leaving the page.

L.A. voters mostly upbeat as new mayor Eric Garcetti starts his job

Los Angeles voters are upbeat about the city's quality of life as Eric Garcetti prepares to take over as mayor ? even if they remain frustrated by traffic jams, substandard schools, costly housing and the backlog of unrepaired streets, according to a new USC Price/Los Angeles Times poll .

Those long-standing gripes aside, solid majorities said they were satisfied with the city's police, parks, libraries, public transportation, emergency services and healthcare system.

Most were also optimistic that after four years with Garcetti as mayor, Los Angeles will be better off than it is today. The councilman from Silver Lake will hold an inaugural ceremony at City Hall on Sunday and start work as mayor Monday.

Garcetti opens his term with a positive, if undefined, public image: 53% of voters viewed him favorably, 17% unfavorably. The rest offered no opinion.

"Garcetti's still a blank slate with most voters," said pollster Jeff Harrelson of M4 Strategies, the Republican firm on the bipartisan team that conducted the survey for the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy and the Los Angeles Times.

Many know little about the incoming mayor, he said, but "they're willing to give him a chance."

Indeed, at least two-thirds of voters said they were confident in Garcetti's ability to handle crime and transportation. Most also had faith in his capacity to improve schools and create jobs.

Overall, the poll results suggested a significant mood shift from the deep pessimism that took hold statewide and nationally after the 2008 economic crisis. Today's voters were split evenly on whether things in Los Angeles were moving in the right direction or off on the wrong track, but even that represented improvement over state and national poll findings in recent years.

In Los Angeles, the recovery has been slow; the unemployment rate still exceeds 10%. Yet tellingly, job creation ranked not first, but second on voters' priority list for the mayor and City Council over the next few years, just behind improving the school system.

"There is definitely a sense nationwide that things are trending in the right direction, and the worst is behind us," said Amy Levin of Benenson Strategy Group, the Democratic firm on the polling team.

On a quality-of-life scale of 1 to 9, the higher the better, nearly half of the city's voters gave Los Angeles a grade of 7, 8 or 9.

The reasons cited most often were jobs, proximity to family and friends, diversity of the population, entertainment, arts, culture, beaches, parks and the outdoors.

"Angelenos aren't completely satisfied with life in their city, but by and large they're very optimistic and very happy," said poll director Dan Schnur.

Not surprisingly, traffic congestion jumped out as the biggest negative effect on the quality of life, followed by the high cost of housing. Traffic was most irksome to white voters and residents of the Westside, where bumper-to-bumper jams on the 405 Freeway epitomize the downside of life in Los Angeles.

Poll respondent John Jackson, a librarian who lives in Westchester, said in a follow-up interview that he was "very happy" with the quality of life in L.A., especially its cultural attractions. But Jackson, a 31-year-old Democrat, has learned to plan ahead for extra drive time to cope with the chronic slowdowns.

"I've just come to expect traffic is going to be bad," he said.

Voter opinions on other aspects of L.A. life also varied by region and ethnicity. In an era of new rail lines opening across Los Angeles, nearly two-thirds of voters citywide were satisfied with the public transit system. Nearly three-quarters of Latinos were happy with it.

But white voters and Westside residents were less satisfied than others, another sign of their dependence on automobiles and their exasperation over traffic.

The poll showed signs of happiness among voters with the steady drop in crime since the 1990s. Citywide, crime reduction scored low on voters' priority list for the mayor and council members. The poll found that 55% of voters were satisfied with the city's police and crime prevention efforts. But Latinos, African Americans and South L.A. residents, traditionally more vulnerable to crime, were less satisfied than whites.

One source of deep dissatisfaction was street repairs, with two-thirds of voters dissatisfied with the city's performance. White voters were unhappiest about the condition of city streets, while Latinos were less concerned about it. In his campaign advertising, Garcetti promised to "do the basics better, like answering phones, filling potholes and picking up trash."

The high cost of housing was a concern for nearly two-thirds of voters. Black voters were especially unhappy with the availability of affordable housing. On the question of access to hospitals and emergency care, voters citywide were satisfied, but Latinos and African Americans were less so.

By and large, however, Latino voters were more content than others with the quality of life, reflecting an optimism that surfaces regularly in polls. Just over half of Latinos said things in the city were going in the right direction.

For Garcetti, a top challenge will be to get the city's spending in line with its tax and fee collections after years of budget shortfalls. Although most voters were confident in his ability to handle fiscal matters, they had more faith in his capacity to meet crime and transportation challenges, among others.

Given a menu of potential spending cuts, voters' top choice was to reduce city worker salaries and administrative costs, followed by cuts to their health and retirement benefits.

"We're going to go the way of Detroit," said poll respondent Rodrick Su, 43, a computer system administrator who lives in Woodland Hills. The salary and pension obligations approved by city leaders are unrealistic, he said.

"Let's be honest," said Su, a Republican. "And hey ? I'm paying for it. It's been going on for quite a while."

The poll found an ethnic divide on slashing the health and retirement benefits of city workers. Only 7% of Latino voters favored that option, but 29% of whites supported the idea. The least favored choice for all voters was to cut the number of police officers, firefighters or emergency dispatchers.

The USC Price/L.A. Times poll of 500 registered voters was taken Monday through Wednesday. The margin of sampling error for the telephone survey was 4.4 percentage points in either direction for the full sample and wider for subgroups.
