UN chief warns of risk of 'war' in Iran nuclear row

UN chief Ban Ki-moon on Thursday urged Iran to comply with UN resolutions demanding it curb its nuclear activities, warning that heightened international rhetoric over the issue risked degenerating into "war."

He said Tehran should build confidence in its nuclear programme by "fully complying with the relevant (UN) Security Council resolutions and thoroughly cooperating with the IAEA."

Otherwise, he warned, "a war of words can quickly spiral into a war of violence."

Ban also reprimanded Iran for "outrageous" comments denying the Holocaust and Israel's right to exist, and called on the two arch-nemeses to drop threats against each other.

"I strongly reject any threat by any (UN) member state to destroy another, or outrageous comments to deny historical facts such as the Holocaust," Ban said in a speech before a Non-Aligned summit in Tehran.

"Claiming another UN member state does not have the right to exist or describe it in racist terms is not only utterly wrong but undermines the very principles we have all promised to uphold," he added.

Ban spoke as Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Thursday slammed the "overt dictatorship" of the UN Security Council in a speech opening th Tehran summit that included Ban himself in the audience.

"The UN Security Council has an irrational, unjust and utterly undemocratic structure, and this is an overt dictatorship," Khamenei told the 120-member NAM summit.

Iran is in a showdown with the Security Council over its disputed nuclear programme, which has resulted in four sets of Security Council resolutions imposing sanctions on it for pursuing uranium enrichment.

Khamenei charged that "the control room of the world (the Security Council) is under the control of the dictatorship of some Western countries" -- implying permanent council members the United States, France and Britain.

State television showed Ban looking nonplussed as Khamenei delivered his speech.

The NAM, which represents much of the developing world, has long championed a reform of the United Nations to take power away from the UN Security Council and bolster the say of the UN General Assembly, where its members are better represented.

Khamenei's criticism of the UN's top table followed a meeting he had with Ban on Wednesday in which the UN leader bluntly told Iran to take "concrete" steps to ease the showdown over the nuclear issue.

(AP) ? A Jupiter-bound spacecraft has successfully fired its engine in the first of two crucial maneuvers intended to bring it toward Earth for a momentum-gathering fly-by.

NASA officials say the Juno spacecraft fired its main engine for just short of 30 minutes Thursday.

Along with another engine firing set for next week, the maneuver is intended to direct Juno toward Earth's orbit for a 2013 fly-by, where it will use the planet's gravity to accelerate toward the outer solar system.

It's currently about 300 million miles from Earth.

Juno launched last year from Florida and is due to arrive at Jupiter in 2016. Once in Jupiter's orbit, it will peer through the cloud cover to learn more about the evolution of the giant gas planet.

MLB, ESPN extend television contract

NEW YORK (AP) ? Major League Baseball and ESPN extended their television contract through 2021 on Tuesday, a deal that almost doubles the amount of money the network will pay annually for baseball content while also all but eliminating local blackouts for ESPN games on Monday and Wednesday nights.

The deal was announced on Tuesday. It combines rights for TV, radio, digital and international that had been separate. The new single contract adds new rights to air a wild-card game, along with additional rights to highlights and digital content. It also gives the network more flexibility to show games involving popular teams.

The previous contracts were worth close to $360 million a year combined. A person with knowledge of the new combined deal says it will be worth about $700 million a year over eight years. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the financial figures were not released.

"ESPN's financial commitment to baseball is extraordinary. ... It's a testament to not only the strength of our game, but the unprecedented popularity with our fans," Commissioner Bud Selig said.

The deal also addresses a long-running problem for ESPN, which was prevented from broadcasting games in the local markets of the teams involved in the game that night. For instance, if ESPN was carrying a Wednesday night game between the Dodgers and Giants, it was unable to show that game in the Los Angeles and San Francisco metro areas.

The new agreement, which begins in 2014, allows ESPN to increase the number of "coexists," meaning that a game between the Dodgers and Giants can be broadcast on the local television stations in Los Angeles and San Francisco, and ESPN.

"We're ESPN. We promote the game all day, we take 'Baseball Tonight' to the area and then when the game starts, there's a message that says 'Not carried in your area,'" ESPN President John Skipper said. "We are now out of that business. The coexist is very important to us."

ESPN still carries exclusive rights for Sunday night games, but Selig said he was pleased with the increased availability of all the games both locally and nationally during the work week.

"I think this deal is very fair," Selig said. "Given the number of games that we have, we certainly don't want to hurt any local rights holders. I don't think we have here at all. The clubs, on balance, are all going to be remarkably better off."

The deal also gives ESPN the rights to a wild-card game, which will rotate between the AL and NL every other year, the ability to air live look-ins on "SportsCenter" and increased the number of times it can schedule a team on Sunday night baseball from five to six.

So does that mean yet another installment of the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry on ESPN? Not necessarily, Skipper said. He said he knows the network is criticized for the perception that it schedules too many games from that series and said ESPN has committed to put every team in the league in that slot at least once per season.

"We want to have a balance to maximize the teams that are most popular and drive the most ratings, but we also want to work with baseball to feature every team and help grow the game," Skipper said.

Dog Food Poisoning Explained | Love My Pets GPS Pet Safety ...

August 29, 2012 ? Jerry Welsh

Dog owners have become more careful with the kind of food given to pets after many dogs were killed because of contaminated pet food. Dogs have died from severe liver damage caused by contaminated commercial dog food. Commercially prepared dog food especially those that are hyped to be of good quality don?t come cheap. But when it comes to the health and well being of the pet, the cost would be the least of the concerns of dog owners. Although considered to be of high quality, some dog food contains toxic ingredients that are harmful to dogs. Not many dog owners are aware that the pet can be poisoned by commercial dog food.

Dogs are considered as members of the family. Even busy owner would take time to cook food for the dog so as to prevent the pet from getting poisoned by commercial food. The risk of poisoning will indeed be lessened if not totally eliminated if the pet?s food is prepared by the owner but dog owners should be careful as some human foods are also toxic to dogs.

Dogs are voracious and indiscriminate eaters and interesting smells emanating from trash bins or garbage heap will cause the dog to rummage frantically and any treasure found it will be eaten and enjoyed by the dog. Dogs are known to gobble up even unfamiliar food and newly introduced diet. Dogs are well loved pets thus it has become the habit of owner to share whatever food they are eating with the pet. These conditions can lead to the poisoning of the pet.

What occurs when the dog has swallowed toxic substances? The dog?s systems will immediately stop ingested toxins from spreading to prevent the occurrence of serious damage to the dog?s vital organs. This effort is generally in the form of vomiting and diarrhea. Vomiting is an indication that the offending substance still remains in the stomach. Diarrhea is an indication that the toxin has spread to the lower intestines. Once the digestive system is affected by the ingested contaminated food, the dog will vomit and have diarrhea.

Poisoning is one of the health concerns of the dog where time is of prime importance to be able to save the life of the pet. Food poisoning is a life threatening situation especially if the dog has swallowed sizeable amount of the contaminated food thus the pet has to have urgent medical attention. However knowing the real condition of the dog is quite difficult. To save the life of the pet, the best thing that must be done is to bring the dog to a vet.

Dog food poisoning is serious. You know that. Learn more about the causes at Sarah?s Dogs.

The Hodge-Podge Gallery: The Screenplay vs. The Novel

Continuing my writing series, I first talked about my process then tackled inspiration. Now?I'm taking you down the more technical road to explain the differences between a screenplay and a novel (and there are many). ?This may come as a shock, but writing a novel is different from writing a screenplay as they're two completely opposing mediums. Who knew??

All forms of art begin the same way: an idea. Depending on the interpretation, one idea elicits boundless results in many forms. Give ten painters one subject and no painting will resemble another. Give ten screenwriters one idea, one "logline" as its known in the Industry, and suddenly you'll have ten different films from which to choose.

After the "Idea" phase, the novel and the screenplay move in separate directions. Being an artistic medium made up entirely of paper and ink, a good book requires endless descriptions of people, places, things, smells, sounds, and emotions. Ever read Tolkien? Authors create entire worlds filled with cities made up of classes and communities full of diverse characters human or otherwise doing and saying interesting things. These stimulating visuals surround a story enriched by themes, philosophies, and conflicts hopefully felt in some degree by the reader to create connection. A novel IS the medium whereas a script is the blueprint of the medium of film.

Like the plans for a building laid out by an architect, a screenplay has parameters in which it must remain, the main two being time and structure. Most films are ninety minutes to two hours with exceptions like Disney animated features coming in around eighty minutes and large scale epics like Lord of the Rings reaching the three hour mark. Novice screenwriters will want to whittle FINAL drafts down to around ninety minutes. Conciseness is key in filmmaking as Time. Is. Money.

As for structure, if a script lacks proper structure and grammar, a Reader will throw it out. Period. Some executives make exceptions toward grammar if the story and characters are unbelievable. In terms of structure, each scene requires a scene heading, descriptions are short, dialogue is written with the character's name in all caps and his/her words centered underneath. Page numbers are in the top right corner, use black Courier font, a script must have a title page, and there are absolutely no pictures or gimmicks: let the film speak for itself.

Visual, present tense, action-filled writing is the only acceptable style for scripts. If a writer can't SHOW it then whatever "It" is needs to go; no subjectivity or emotions. Unless a screenwriter can show a character's feelings that part is left to directors and actors. For example, "Seeing his friend's grave made Aaron sad" is unacceptable and amateur. Something like "As Aaron reaches the top of the hill, a small gravestone reading "Dan Smith: Loyal Son, Brother, and Friend" comes into view. Approaching the stone, Aaron drops to his knees, pounds his fists into the ground, and sobs."

For fun (as I believe writing should ALWAYS BE FUN-- take that Hollywood!!), I stylize my writing when describing people (and places) as it keeps me on my toes. Instead of introducing a character as "JAMIE, 27, blond, tall, and heavy-set wearing skinny jeans and a T-shirt..." I would write "JAMIE, a long-legged 27 year old whose curvaceous frame remains stylish at any size with a perpetual smirk plastered on her perfectly made-up face..."

Dialogue is s whole other matter that will be saved for a future post.

Furthermore, the position of a Novelist is solitary work. You can lock yourself away in a remote cabin somewhere in the north woods with nothing but you and your computer, and write until your fingers fall off. Your publisher will send you notes for revisions. Writing the initial screenplay might require a Screenwriter to lock himself away until he finishes the first few drafts, but once the script moves into the hands of agents and producers, kiss any power you had over your work goodbye (unless you're Charlie Kauffman, Quentin Tarantino, or Aaron Sorkin). Everyone gets a say in the revisions, from financiers to producers to the director to the actors-- even other screenwriters may be brought in to rewrite the script. In fact, unless the writer is also producing and directing (and most of the time this spells disaster *cough* M. Night Shyamalan *cough*), he is last in the filmmaking chain of command.

Yet, the writing process and basics remain the same for novels and screenplays. Both need intriguing stories with compelling conflict; both require dimensional characters who elicit emotional reactions from readers. Every writer dreads the blank screen and blinking cursor, experiences Block, and thinks everything he writes is shit and he should have been a doctor like his parents always wanted. No work is ever complete and always needs further polish, though, as someone who grew up drawing and singing, this attitude is adopted by artists in any form.

So why do I write? Am I masochistic or utterly vain? I write because I have something to say and writing is the best way for me to do it.

Lexmark to jettison inkjet printers, 1,700 workers

(AP) ? Lexmark is jettisoning its inkjet printers and laying off 1,700 workers as paper becomes increasingly passe in an age of ever-sleeker digital devices and online photo albums on Internet hangouts like Facebook.

The shake-up announced Tuesday is the latest fallout from the growing popularity of smartphones and tablet computers that make it easier to store and retrieve content from anywhere with an Internet connection. As a result computer printers are used less frequently, especially at home.

That's hurting printer makers, whose revenue is falling at the same time profit margins are being squeezed by fierce competition.

"It's a declining market with far too many players," said Gartner Inc. analyst Federico De Silva. He estimates the number of monthly pages printed by the average consumer has fallen by more than 40 percent in recent years.

Lexmark International Inc. responded by pulling the plug on its inkjet business. The company, based in Lexington Ky., will stop making inkjet printers that were primarily sold to consumers and instead focus on more sophisticated machines aimed at offices and customers that still produce a lot of content on paper, like advertisers and catalog publishers.

People who already own Lexmark inkjets should have no immediate worries. Lexmark plans to sell replacement ink cartridges and other supplies for its obsolescent machines for several more years.

The most immediate impact will fall on Lexmark workers. The company's planned 1,700 job cuts include 1,100 in its manufacturing operations. One of the biggest hits will come in Cebu, Philippines, where Lexmark plans to close a plant by the end of 2015.

The cutbacks will affect about 13 percent of Lexmark's workforce, based on the 13,300 employees on the company payroll at the start of this year.

Lexmark is trying to trim annual expenses by $85 million next year, with savings expected to escalate to $95 million annually when the cuts are completed in 2015. The company expects about $160 million in charges over the next three years for severance pay and other costs.

Lexmark hopes to recoup some of its money by selling its roughly 1,000 patents on inkjet technology and other items from its discarded business.

Investors applauded Lexmark's moves as the company's surged by $2.61, or nearly 14 percent, to close Tuesday at $21.62. The stock remains well off its 52-week high of $38.34 reached six months ago, shortly after the company disclosed plans to eliminate 625 jobs.

The decision to leave inkjet printers comes a month after Lexmark reported a 61 percent decline in earnings for the latest quarter.

Hewlett-Packard Co., the world's largest maker of computer printers, is also having a tough time selling its less expensive machines to consumers. Its sales of consumer printer units plunged by 23 percent from last year during its most recent quarter.

Analyst De Silva said printer makers have compounded their problems by maintaining high prices for ink cartridges at the same time people are finding it just as easy to read many documents on Internet-connected tablets such as Apple Inc.'s iPad.

"Printing isn't going to go away completely, but more people are learning the best way to consume content these days is on a digital device," De Silva said.

Iran's military chief suing US over sanctions

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) ? A news agency reports that Iran's top military commander is suing the U.S. for putting his name on its sanctions list.

The semiofficial Fars news agency quoted Iran's chief of staff, Gen. Hassan Firouzabadi, as saying the U.S. opposes "security and independence" for Iran. He said he has spent his life serving Iran and humanity, and the U.S. should be made to pay for the "unwise" decision to list him.

The West has imposed sanctions on Iran and its leaders to press Tehran to stop enriching uranium, suspecting Iran is aiming to produce nuclear weapons. Iran denies that.

The U.S. put Firouzabadi's name on the sanctions list in 2011, charging he was involved in human rights abuses.

The Monday report did not say how he plans to pursue his case.

I Needed History Curriculum Homeschool For My Daughter

August 26th, 2012 by admin

A few months ago my husband found out that his job was sending him to Europe for an entire year. He would be moving from country to country and wouldn?t be staying in a single location for more than a few months. We wanted our daughter to experience Europe but we didn?t want her to miss a year of schooling. I decided to homeschool her while we were in Europe. My sister suggested that I look for history curriculum homeschool online. She told me that I could find a great history program for my daughter.

In a statement, Hot 97 svp/general manager Alex Cameron said: "There are no words to express how stunned and saddened I and the whole Emmis staff are as Chris was a long-time and widely cared for Emmis NY family member. He was a fantastic, creative and dynamic professional that can never be replaced.? More importantly, he was a generous, selfless, person of integrity with a great sense of humor and true friend to so many. He was a dad, a husband, a colleague and dear friend. I certainly count him as one of my close friends and a special part of Emmis that will always, always be remembered.?

"We will mourn and remember Chris, and we will also celebrate his life and the significant accomplishments of this incredibly cheerful, unique and warm individual. The massive outpouring of sadness and many fond memories are a testament to Chris.? He was simply one of the best human beings that I've ever known and I know everyone at Emmis would echo that sentiment. Saying that Chris will be missed is an understatement and our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and children."

A guide to a successful one-to-one iPad rollout
What does it take to ensure the successful rollout of a one-to-one iPad program? In this blog post, Jac de Haan, technology integration specialist, outlines step-by-step what a successful two-month rollout should look like. In the first week, students establish solid academic habits without the iPads, before students and parents learn about the devices. By week four, students are given the iPads at the beginning of class and asked to return them at the end, building up to week nine when students are trusted to use the devices as they see fit. 3 lessons from a school?s iPad rollout
Instructional technology specialist Andrew Marcinek writes in this blog post that when his school rolled out a one-to-one iPad initiative, he learned that eliminating textbooks is more difficult than it seems and not all students will readily adapt to new technology. Marcinek also writes about the importance of trusting students in the process, which his school did by establishing a student-run genius bar. Edutopia.org/Andrew Marcinek?s blog (8/22)

Are iPads worth the cost?
The rocky launch of an iPad initiative in a California school district has led some to question whether the benefits of the devices are worth the cost. At issue is the decision to pay $4.3 million for 6,300 iPads for seventh-grade students, plus the cost of iPad covers and related software. While teachers and other supporters say they are enthusiastic about the potential benefits of iPads in the classroom, the district is not tracking whether students? grades have risen since the technology was introduced. Ailing Woods gets in the mix at Bethpage

(AP) ? A common phrase this year ? "Tiger's back" ? took on a new meaning Friday at The Barclays.

Woods felt a twinge in his lower back when he awoke and felt pain throughout the second round at Bethpage Black. He overcame a bogey-bogey start, struggled in the simple task of retrieving the ball from the cup and stayed well within range of Nick Watney and the resurgent Sergio Garcia, who shared the lead going into the weekend.

As many injuries as Woods has gone through the last two years, the way he grimaced and walked gingerly made it look as if this could be another.

But that wasn't the case.

"Must have slept funny on it," Woods said. "Soft beds at the hotel, and woke up this morning with it stiff. As I warmed up, it got progressively worse, and then you saw what happened on the golf course. It hurt all day."

He managed a 2-under 69, a good effort in the afternoon on greens that tend to get crusty.

More impressive were Garcia and Watney, also playing in the afternoon as they worked their way up the leaderboard. Garcia, who ended a four-year drought on the PGA Tour last week by winning the Wyndham Championship, made bogey on the third hole with what he called his worst swing of the week and atoned for that with a tee shot on the par-5 fourth that restored his momentum and sent him to a 68.

Watney, whose season has been so dismal that he isn't even in the Ryder Cup conversation as a potential pick, went eagle-birdie on the par 5s on the front nine and then survived a roller coaster of birdies and bogeys on the back nine that gave him a 69.

They were at 8-under 134.

Vijay Singh, who last won a PGA Tour event in 2008 when he captured the opening two playoff events and sailed to the FedEx Cup title, played bogey-free for a 67 and was one shot out of the lead, along with Bob Estes, who had a 66. John Senden (68) and Pat Perez (70) were another stroke back at 6-under 136.

Rory McIlroy noticed Woods wincing on the opening tee shot. About an hour later, McIlroy felt his own pain with sloppy mistakes during a four-hole stretch, three of them bogeys, that left him outside the cut line. But not for long. The PGA champion bounced back with an 18-foot birdie putt on the ninth, added two more birdies and had a 73.

The cut was at 1-over 143, ending the FedEx Cup playoffs for the likes of Robert Allenby, Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III and Heath Slocum, who narrowly got into the 125-man field at the start of the playoffs.

Garcia didn't look as though he would be around the PGA Tour's version of a postseason until winning last week in North Carolina by using a local club caddie, and then showing no signs of a letdown at Bethpage Black while using a CBS Sports spotter on the bag.

The Spaniard is getting his own yardages, compiling his own thoughts, going off his own instincts. And he's hitting a lot of very good shots.

"Golf is a funny game," Garcia said. "When you think that you have it under control, it kicks you down. And then all of a sudden, it gives you something to live it again, I guess. Obviously, if I'm not hitting the shots, then it doesn't help."

He hit plenty of good ones at Bethpage, including a chip-in for birdie from behind the green at No. 2, the drive that pleased him so much on No. 4, and an 8-iron from 171 yards on the tough fifth hole to about 8 feet for birdie.

Garcia announced after the round that he would not play in the Deutsche Bank Championship next week at the TPC Boston, saying he wanted to stay fresh for the Ryder Cup.

Watney hasn't given himself many chances this year, but if his game isn't coming around, at least his attitude is.

"If a football team is struggling, they win one game, it's not really a success," Watney said. "But in golf if you're struggling, you win one tournament, all of a sudden ... I don't know how Sergio was playing, but he wins last week and he's right up there again this week. He's climbing the rankings and all that stuff. Golf is funny in that way. Just a couple little things here and there, and all of a sudden you're playing great."

There was evidence of that all over Bethpage.

Padraig Harrington opened with a 64 and revived talk about his slim chances of making the European Ryder Cup. Then, he bogeyed his opening three holes and had to grind out a 75 to stay in the mix at 3-under 139. McIlroy went from three straight bogeys and three birdies in five holes. Singh was a forgotten Fijian until he shared the 36-hole lead with Woods at the PGA Championship, and now goes into another weekend with high hopes.

"I think I'm playing as good as I did in any part of my career," Singh said. "I'm hitting the ball as long. I'm hitting the ball straighter. I feel a lot of confidence in me. It's just I need to get some kind of momentum going. I thought I had it at the PGA, but I kind of let it slip there on Sunday. But it's all about how you're hitting it, and right now I'm striking the ball good. My distance is back, and I'm literally pain-free, which makes a whole lot of difference."

Woods was anything but pain-free Friday.

It became evident in the middle of the back nine, especially stooping over so carefully to pluck the ball out of the cup that it looked like he was doing a curtsey. The worst of it came on the par-5 13th, when he drove into a fairway bunker. Walking down the slope, he lost his footing, both feet landed in the sand with a thud. He stooped over to catch his breath, blasted out and eventually had to play a nifty pitch-and-run from the back slope of a cross bunker to save his par.

"It was like a section of movement, so it didn't hurt standing up, it didn't hurt at the bottom of a squat, but it was the somewhere-in-between-there it was going to catch. It would grab just before impact, so you'd kind of expect, it, so I could get through that," Woods said.

It's not the first time he has tweaked his back, so he knew how to get by.

Woods headed for the fitness trailer when he finished and said he would be fine on Saturday. As for the bed?

"I'm probably going to sleep on the floor," he said. "I do that in Europe all the time, so this is nothing new."

Do-It-Yourself Home Improvement Tips And Tricks - Total Vibration

Having extra bathrooms in your home is invaluable to the homeowners, but it also increases the value of your home. If you have the means, then adding a bathroom would be a good long-term investment. Just be sure to stick to the theme that your house already has, and keep it in the same time period as the rest of your home.

Buying new appliances can actually save you money in the long run. Now a days, companies have invested a lot of money in appliances that conserve energy. If you buy a new fridge that uses less electricity, during the life of the refrigerator, you will actually be saving money.

Hiring a professional organizer for a home storage makeover, can do wonders for your home?s look. Most of us have catch all areas throughout the house, where items tend to go to die. We all have areas that we look at and say that we?ll straighten it out tomorrow. A professional organizer can suggest changes you can make to avoid these problem areas and make your home more efficient.

An inexpensive way to give your kitchen a fresh look without spending thousands on new cabinets is to give them a face lift. Install new hard ware and recondition them with oil to make them look new. Depending on the material of the cabinets, you might be able to paint them too.

If you require the help of a home contractor for your home improvement project, make sure that you take the time needed to collect various estimates so you can do some great price-shopping. This will ensure that you are getting the best price possible for the contracting services that you need.

When choosing who to help you with a home improvement project you will need to figure out what type of help you need. A tradesperson can help with specific upgrades like replacing a furnace or moving ductwork. A specialty contractor can work on your kitchen or your bathroom, but typically not both. A renovator or general contractor can cover more than one project at one time.

Wrap your water heater in an insulation kit to improve energy usage and efficiency. Kits are available for any size or model water heater and the savings generated from increased efficiency quickly offsets the cost of the insulating kit. Water heater installation kits are also easy to install, making this a simple do it yourself home improvement project.

Are you trying to decide if vinyl siding would be a great home improvement project? If you are looking for improvements where you can recoup most of your investment when you sell your home, then vinyl siding replacement can be a good choice. On average, homeowners usually recoup about 80 percent of the costs spent on this project.

You should do a simple internet search if you are looking for general contractors in your area. Many contractors are now posting ads online to help boost their business. You can find a contractor that fits your needs and even reads reviews from their previous clients. This is a quick and easy way to find a contractor to do your home improvement job.

When applying a fresh coat of paint to a textured wall or ceiling, use a paint roller with a thick, fluffy nap. These rollers can be more prone to dripping, so you have to be careful. However, they are essential for making sure every nook and cranny on the surface receives some paint.

Patch the holes in your walls with toothpaste! Yes, this is definitely a temporary cover up but it works to hide an ugly hole until you can come up with the materials for a more permanent fix. Use white toothpaste and trowel it into the hole with a butter knife.

If your room feels plain, add interest to it by choosing a heavily patterned rug. Stripes (horizontal or vertical), polka dots and swirls always make for a bold statement in your room. Don?t be afraid to try new things, even if at first glance they don?t match. Try small swatches of a design before you purchase the full product to make sure you like it.

Strategically placed mirrors, can add visual interest to any room and make the area feel more spacious. This is especially useful in small bathrooms. Use adhesive-backed mirrors from any home improvement center, to create a distinctive design, that adds impact and an illusion of more space. This project can be easily achieved in under an hour and with, as little as, fifty dollars.

Use neutral colors when you paint. They will create the illusion of extra, open space, and make rooms appear to be larger than they are. A well painted home suggests to visitors that it is also a well cared for home. Don?t let the paint get too faded or warn before sprucing it up with fresh coats.

As you read up top, professionals are making these projects look easy when they?re really not. A lot of what you can do around the home is relatively simple, but you will need the right amount of knowledge for any type of repair or upgrade. Employ the tactics you?ve learned here to make your improvements easier.
