Green Bay Packers' stock sale under way (AP)

GREEN BAY, Wis. ? A stock sale of the country's only publicly owned professional sports franchise is under way.

Owning stock in the Green Bay Packers won't make you rich, but it will give you the right to say you own a piece of `the Pack.'

The fifth stock sale in the team's 92-year history is to raise money to pay for $143 million in improvements at Lambeau (LAM'-boh) Field.

The Packers are selling 250,000 shares at $250 each, plus $25 in handling charges, both online and by mail. The sale comes at an optimum time for the defending Super Bowl champions during an undefeated season.

The stock has no financial value and can't be resold. The stockholder can vote on team business, including the board of directors, and attend annual meetings.
