(AP) ? Forty-somethings and teen phenoms.

Records and rivalries.

Comebacks and farewells.

While Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte are getting much of the attention, there's no shortage of compelling stories heading into the U.S. Olympic swimming trials, which begins Monday at a temporary pool set up in the middle of the 13,200-seat CenturyLink Center Omaha.

On the women's side, 11-time Olympic medalist Natalie Coughlin will be matched against 17-year-old Missy Franklin, who emerged as the sport's next big star with a dazzling performance at last year's world championships. Then there's 40-year-old Janet Evans, attempting to qualify for the London Games after retiring for 15 years. And let's not forget 45-year-old Dara Torres, back again trying to make her sixth Olympic team. She insists this will be her last attempt.
