DOVER, Del. (February 13, 2013)--Thomas Matusiewicz, 68, the rural South Texas man who killed his former daughter-in-law and another woman in a Delaware courthouse before shooting himself to death, complained about not getting justice in a lawsuit filed against his family.
Matusiewicz complained to a Delaware judge in 2011 that he and his family had no money to defend themselves in a lawsuit filed by his former daughter-in-law Christine Belford after her ex-husband, David Matusiewicz, kidnapped the couple's three daughters and took them to Central America.
Thomas and his wife, Lenore, also complained they spent or lost more than $1 million trying to get the three young girls to safety.
Matusiewicz walked into the lobby of the New Castle County Courthouse Monday, and shot and killed Belford and her friend before taking his own life, police said.
Relatives said they so no signs he planned such a drastic step.
Juan Gonzalez, Matusiewicz's son-in-law, said he and his wife, Amy, saw Matusiewicz about five or six days ago when they were making arrangements for their animals to be fed while he was in Delaware to attend a court hearing.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Hidalgo County sheriff?s deputies and FBI agents executed a search warrant on the family's rural South Texas home.
The affidavit filed for the search warrant says the man's son and wife are also suspects in the deadly shooting.
According to the affidavit, Matusiewicz, his wife and his son are "suspected of intentionally and knowingly participating in a murder."
The document describes video that shows Matusiewicz and his son hugging in the courthouse lobby.
After the son left, Matusiewicz waited for his victims, killed them and wounded two officers before shooting himself.
Police found two handwritten death certificates for Belford and her lawyer on his body.
